After studying Drama at NYU, Columbia University, and the Royal Academy of Performing arts in London, Kari Wuhrer played the resident bimbo opposite colin Quinn on MTV’s Remote Control. Wuhrer opted for the Olivia Munn route in order to escape playing the mindless eye candy by taking roles in science fiction. starting with Swamp Thing and then her most famous genre role in Sliders. wuhrer came full circle with that one, starting her career with colin Quinn and now traveling with Colin and Quinn. The poor girl has a nasty habit of co-starring with giant, vicious animals, too.
Wuhrer’s run on Sliders was unfortunate. She joined the cast in the third season when the show was shifting directions. John Rhys Davies had already left over creative differences with FOX, a network which has never cared much for science fiction beyond The X-Files, and the show was promptly cancelled. The Sci Fi Channel picked it up for two more seasons, but Wuhrer’s character of Capt. Maggie Beckett went from a tough military type back to a bimbo. Presumably because Sc Fi does not care much about science fiction, either.
In recent years, Wuhrer has been a regular in straight to video shlock, soap operas, animation voice overs, and the occasion artsy film in which she spends more time out of her clothes than in them. One cannot complain a whole lot. She is hot, but one wonders if things could not have turned out better for her with some wiser role choices.
